Hello! Today we are going to work on completing sentences using the correct relative pronouns or relative adverbs. These words help us connect ideas and provide more details about nouns in a sentence.

Filling in the blanks for Exercise 2.
Let's look at the first sentence. I talked to the boy, blank, bike had broken down on the way to school.
1. I talked to the boy ______ bike had broken down...
We are talking about a possession, the bike belonging to the boy. For possession, we use whose.
Sentence two. Paris, blank, Michelle was born, is the capital of France.
2. Paris, ______ Michelle was born, is the capital of France.
Paris is a place, and the following clause explains what happened there. So, we use the relative adverb where.
Sentence three. Tom lives in a house in Ho Chi Minh City, blank, is in Viet Nam.
3. Tom lives in a house in Ho Chi Minh City, ______ is in Viet Nam.
Here, we are referring to the city or house, which are things. Since the relative pronoun is the subject of the clause, we use which.
Sentence four involves a person who is the object of the verb talked to. The girl, blank, you have just talked to is my old friend.
4. The girl ______ you have just talked to is my old friend.
When referring to a person as an object, we can use whom, who, or that. Whom is the most formal choice here.
Moving on to sentence five. My brother, blank, has just arrived at the bus station, wants to meet our parents first.
5. My brother, ______ has just arrived at the bus station...
Since my brother is a person and the subject of the clause, we use who.
