Step by Step Written Solution
Hi Aleyna, let's dive into some exercises on mixed conditionals. Mixed conditionals describe situations where the time in the 'if' clause and the time in the main clause are different.
Mixed Conditionals Exercise
Let's look at the first sentence. It says, If I study more, I pass the exam now. The result, passing now, depends on a past condition.
1. If I ________ (study) more, I ________ (pass) the exam now.
Since it's a past hypothetical situation leading to a present result, we use the past perfect in the 'if' clause and 'would' with the base verb in the main clause.
Now for the second sentence: If she not miss the bus yesterday, she be here now. Once again, we have a hypothetical past condition with a present result.
2. If she ________ (not miss) the bus yesterday, she ________ (be) here now.
We use 'had not missed' for the past condition and 'would be' for the present result.
Moving on to sentence three: If we have more time, we finish the project yesterday. This is different. The condition, having time, is a general or present state, but the result was in the past.
3. If we ________ (have) more time, we ________ (finish) the project yesterday.
