In this lesson, we will fill in the gaps for twelve conditional sentences by choosing the correct verb forms based on the context of each situation.
Conditional Sentences Exercise
Let's look at the first few sentences. Number one is a first conditional about a future possibility. We use will plus the base verb followed by the present simple in the if-clause.
Situations 1 - 3
For sentence two, Person B is talking about a past event that didn't happen. This is a third conditional. We use had not been and would have stolen.
Number three describes a hypothetical future. If we went in June, we would not be able to swim. This uses the second conditional setup.
Moving on to sentences four through six. Number four is a first conditional about plans for this evening. I will go if I do not feel tired.
Situations 4 - 6
Number five is a classic second conditional advice structure. If I were you, I would not miss the chance.
Number six uses 'unless', which means 'if not'. We will not get there unless we leave now. It follows the first conditional pattern.
